White Wines from Loire
COUR CHEVERNY AOC 1999 Christian Tessier
This is a unique wine with an interesting history. It is believed that the Romorantin grapes used in the making of this wine were brought to, the then Gaul, by invading Romans and were planted in the Tarn Valley where wild vines grew. These grapes were grown over the years until the wine, which has a soft floral nose of Acacia and a complex buttery, honeyed taste, caught the attention of Louis XIV. A decree was issued for a vineyard of Romorantin to be planted near Versailles, this was done at a monastery in the Loire. Today Cour Cheverny remains the only wine in France to be made of 100% Romorantin grapes.
